RotaCerta: a driver app interface tested before a line of code

Brief

RotaCerta is an early-stage logistics start-up building a route-planning tool for small delivery fleets. Before committing engineering budget to a full build, the founders wanted to know whether drivers could actually use the proposed flow — accepting a route, reporting a delay, confirming a delivery — without training.

Hand-drawn app wireframe sketches next to a tablet, natural light.

Approach

We ran an MVP Interface Sprint: mapping the core driver flow, wireframing every screen, then building a clickable prototype covering the app’s roughly dozen key screens. The prototype was tested directly with real dispatchers and two drivers before a single engineering ticket was written.

What we delivered

User flows and wireframes for the driver app.

A clickable prototype (around 12 screens) covering route acceptance, delay reporting and delivery confirmation.

A short report of testing feedback and recommended changes.

Outcomes

The clickable prototype cut the first engineering estimate by a third, once ambiguous flows were resolved before the build started.

Two flow changes identified in testing with real dispatchers were fixed at the prototype stage, before any code existed.

The founders used the prototype directly in their own investor conversations.

"They tested the driver flow with real dispatchers before we wrote a single ticket for the dev team."
